Robots aren't creepy, scary creatures lurking in the shadows. While technology leaders like Tesla's Elon Musk warn about artificially intelligent robots ruling the human population in the future, and that is scary, robots of today are pretty cool.
They do stuff you don't want to do, too, like vacuuming, fighting fires and wars, and lifting heavy equipment in factories. They're also pretty close to doing everything at home that you'd rather leave to your robot maid, like Rosie in "The Jetsons."
The robotics company IHMC Robotics Lab is working on a Rosie-type robot to clean up your house. (See video of its Atlas humanoid robot below.)
Atlas walks around like a person, sweeps and picks up trash. Which is great. The downside to Atlas, at least for the moment, is that it's an early-stage robot that has to be continually controlled by a person. Still, once the kinks are worked out, Atlas will be a pretty cool addition to your home.
