It took a while, but Microsoft is finally seeing some success with Windows-based tablets. The new Surface models running Windows 10 are fast enough to handle both Windows apps and full programs. In fact, they have a lot of the same guts as a slim Windows laptop.
Throw in an adjustable stand built into the case, the optional digital pencil for creative work and you've got a very versatile system. The only thing missing is the keyboard for extended typing sessions. However, Microsoft has that covered, too.
Microsoft makes what it calls the Type Cover. This screen cover snaps on to the Surface with magnets, and features raised keys and a trackpad for true laptop-style control. The keys are even backlit for use in darker areas.
Unfortunately, the Type Cover isn't free. You can expect to pay $130 on top of the Surface's $499 starting price. If that's put you off, you'll want to know about a limited-time offer.
Starting today and through January 17, while supplies last, when you buy a Surface 3 10.8-inch tablet, you get a Type Cover free. The offer is valid online and in the Microsoft store.
If you're looking for a less expensive Windows 10 tablet that comes with a free keyboard case anytime, check out the KomandoTab2 in our shop. And if you use promo code TAB30 between now and January 20, you get $30 off the already low price.
