Soon, Batman won't be the only one with super cool gadgets hiding in his car. Ford has recently filed a patent that will make every car owner feel like they're driving the Batmobile.
The car itself might not look that flashy, but it's what the car is hiding in its trunk that counts.
According to the specifications of the patent, Ford is developing a self-balancing unicycle that can be removed from the trunk whenever you need a backup ride, just like the Batpod, from The Dark Knight. Remember this clip from the film?
Don't let the word "unicycle" fool you. This sleek bike looks similar to a RYNO, but there is one key difference. While Ford's model will also be self-propelled and self-balancing, unlike the RYNO, this unicycle will require the back tire from your car to operate.
That may sound complicated, but that's only because you're probably imagining all of the work that currently goes into changing a tire. There are multiple, tedious steps and bulky tools involved. But Ford's patent thought of this, also.
To make things easier for the everyday user, the carrying vehicle would include an automated jack system to raise the back tire from the ground. There is also speculation that some sort of automated system would assist in connecting the tire to the unicycle's upper piece.
For now, Ford has made no official statement about its intentions for this design, or that it has a prototype in the works. So, there's no estimated timeframe as to when this cool feature will become available for drivers.
