So often, when you read about soldiers on Facebook, it's a scam. Unfortunately, scammers know people are drawn to soldiers, whether it's to donate to them, watch a touching video of them surprising their family, or falling in love with them.
So, it's nice to know that there are real-life soldiers on Facebook doing really cool things. Although, you may not always agree with their politics.
For instance, a British soldier named Chris Herbert, who lost his leg in Iraq in 2007, recently posted a message in which he criticizes people for assuming he hates Muslims. It has gone viral.
His post (see photo next page) has been shared on Facebook nearly 171,000 times, and thousands of times on Twitter, including a tweet by "Harry Potter" author, J.K. Rowling. (See photo.)
Herbert said he was inspired to make his post because he was being recruited by "Islamophobic" groups to spew their anti-Muslim messages.
People have also asked him about Donald Trump's suggestion that Muslims should temporarily be barred from entering the United States. "He's a fool," Herbert wrote, about the presidential hopeful.
He wrote, in part: "Yes, a Muslim man blew me up, and I lost my leg. A Muslim man also lost his arm that day wearing a British uniform. A Muslim medic was in the helicopter that took me from the field. A Muslim surgeon performed the surgery that saved my life. A Muslim nurse was part of the team that helped me when I returned to the UK."
