Every parent's dream is that the world will be better for their children than it was for them. They hope to provide their kids with a brighter life, and leave them with a hopeful future.

Mark Zuckerberg and his wife are no different. As new parents to their daughter, Max, the young couple is looking for ways to make the world a better place. And as one of the richest families in America, the way they're going about it is pretty impressive.

In a recent post on Facebook, Mark wrote an inspiring letter to his baby girl. "Dear Max," it begins. "Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in. Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today."

The letter then goes on to describe the current state of things. He explains that the news is often filled with negative things, but that positive changes are being made. He lists his hopes for the future, listing promoting equality and human potential as one of his top dreams. Harnessing clean energy, increasing charitable acts and ending world hunger are among others listed.

Zuckerberg then talks about investing in the future. He says, "Our experience with personalized learning, internet access, and community education and health has shaped our philosophy." Then, he explains how education and technology can play a role in advancing the next generation.

Then, putting his money where his mouth is, Zuckerberg makes a shocking announcement. "We will give 99% of our Facebook shares -- currently about $45 billion -- during our lives to advance this mission," he says. "We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others."

Details on how these shares will be distributed were not provided. Instead, the CEO of Facebook left us only with the message, "More details will come." But, he went on to further emphasize his commitment to the project, saying, "We can make progress towards these opportunities only by standing on the shoulders of experts -- our mentors, partners and many incredible people."
