If the idea of interacting with robots leaves you a little cold, you're probably thinking about the metal, mechanical type of robot you see in movies. Or, worse, you may be thinking about artificially intelligent robots that could take over the world.

If so, and if you could use a warm-and-fluffy companion, you should think about a cuter type of robot. These robots purr when you pet them, and go to sleep when you're not around.

Hasbro has created a line of tools that are designed in part for older people who could use companionship, but not the hassle of taking care of a living creature. The company's Joy For All robotic pets are cuddly cats.

The cats, which are going for $99, are the size of a real cat and covered in fake fur. They run on four 1.5V C alkaline batteries.

The cats have built-in sensors to respond to movement and touch. They come equipped with VibraPurr technology, to respond as a real cat would.

If you pet its left cheek, it'll nuzzle with you. Pet its head and it'll purr, or keep petting and your Joy For All will roll on its back for a belly rub.
