You've probably heard of Kickstarter. It's a site where people collect money from strangers, sometimes for really great causes.
A family who can't afford to bury a family member might use the site to collect money for funeral expenses. A lot of times, small business owners raise money to cover startup costs. Or aspiring filmmakers raise money to pay for production costs.
But what about using it to fund your next vacation? Would you ever ask other people to pay for your trips around the world?
That's exactly what Matt Harding is doing. He's the guy who gained fame for dancing in videos from locations around the world. Those videos, which have been viewed millions of times, captured Harding on trips he and corporate sponsors funded.
Now he wants your help. (See the video next page.) His intentions are good, he says, if a little suspect. He says that people around the world are lonely because technology is keeping us isolated. Everyone is so well connected, virtually, that they're not getting out and being with other people.
Harding's aim is to bring people together. He's asking for donors to vote on cities that he should visit. He'll go to that location and most likely dance in videos from there.
Harding is trying to raise $125,000. He's up to $9,400 in less than a month. He details where the money will go, including 40% for travel expenses, 20% for a film crew, and 20% for his financial backers' rewards, which includes postcards.
