You'd probably be happier if you quit Facebook

Have you ever found yourself getting blue when you're on social media? It's almost impossible to scroll through your friends' posts about their brilliant children, gorgeous homes and new cars, and not come away wondering when your life hit the skids.

As it turns out, social media sites like Facebook may be linked to how happy you are. Facebook, which has 1.5 billion active users, can also make you feel more stressed out.

That's according to researchers at the Happiness Research Institute. The center conducted a study with more than 1,000 daily Facebook users, to see how the site affected their mood.

One group went cold turkey for a week. No Facebook, at all. The other group went about using Facebook as they normally do. Can you guess what happened?

Some 88% of the people who didn't use Facebook for a week said they were happy, or satisfied with their lives. While 81% of the group who continued to use Facebook said the same thing, they were also 55% more stressed out than non-Facebook users.

Meantime, only 41% of the Facebook quitters said they were worried. By comparison, 54% of Facebook users felt that way.
