If you haven't jumped on the craft beer trend yet, you might soon find it impossible to ignore. American-made beer in local breweries is on a growth trajectory that even high-tech companies would envy.
In fact, there are now more local breweries than there have been in America since the 1870s, according to the Brewers Association. Today, there are some 4,000 local breweries, and about 75% of adults live within a 10-mile drive of one.
There are also a lot of home brewers making their own beer at home. Although, making beer at home has never been easy. It requires ingredients, like hops, that aren't always easy to come by, plus you need equipment, storage space and other things to make a decent bottle of beer.
Thanks to a former Microsoft VP, that is about to change. In fact, Bill Mitchell is about to make beer brewing as easy as making a cup of coffee with a coffeemaker like Keurig, or pretty close to it. You'll soon be able to do that with his company PicoBrew's Pico device. (See photo next page.)
