If you're in the market for a brand new laptop, it might be a good time to buy. Microsoft just unveiled a new buyback program to try and convince you to upgrade to a new Windows 10 laptop. If your old computer meets the qualifications, you'll get a check for $200 for a PC and $300 for a Mac.
The deal works in four steps:
- Buy a new laptop computer through Microsoft's online store. You need to do this before Tuesday, October 20th. You have 52 choices from top brands like Lenovo, Sony, Asus, Toshiba and more. Your new computer must cost at least $600 to qualify.
- Submit a trade-in claim online for your old laptop within 14 days of your purchase. It has to be an all-in-one PC, a 2-in-1 or laptop, a MacBook or an iMac. It can't be more than six years old and the display must be at least 11.3" or larger. It also has to work. Here's a handy chart that gives you some idea of what condition your computer needs to be in:
- Send in your old laptop. You'll get detailed instructions in an email once your claim is accepted, but Microsoft will need to receive your computer within 30 days of your purchase.
- Get paid. Microsoft says you'll get your rebate within 28 days of your computer being validated.
