Can you believe Pandora has been around for 10 years now? When it started out, it was only the cleverest music categorization software on the Web. It could sort and curate radio stations based on your taste.
Now, it's one of the biggest names in online music streaming. Apple Music and Spotify have radio stations now, but Pandora beat them to the punch a decade back.
Pandora is unique for its "Music Genome Project," a database that "learns" your tastes to customize playlists for you. In fact, Pandora says on its site that "We created Pandora to put the Music Genome Project directly in your hands."
For all of Wednesday's 24 hours, all stations on Pandora will cease playing ads (we realize you're just getting this, so feel free to open another tab and turn it on). Also, timed to the anniversary, on Thursday Pandora will begin offering 24-hour ad-free passes for only 99 cents. Pandora is free with ads, and charges $4.99 a month for its ad-free stations.
"This is a thank you to each and every listener who has tuned in to Pandora over the past 10 years," Tim Westergren, Pandora's founder, said in a statement.
Almost 80 million people listen to Pandora every month - are you one of them? How good is it at picking out songs that you like? Let us know in the comments below.
