The moment we've all been waiting for is right around the corner ...

If you've ever dreamed of seeing two gigantic robots fight each other to the death, your dream is about to come true. Next year, Team USA will battle Team Japan in a giant robot duel, but they're going to need our help to win.

MegaBots Inc. is the team from the United States and their goal is to destroy the giant robot built by the Japanese team Suidobashi Heavy Industry. This past June, MegaBots challenged the Japanese to a duel and they accepted, but under one condition; the duel must include hand-to-hand combat.

This epic hand-to-hand combat means that the MegaBots giant robot model, the Mk.II, will need some serious upgrades that cost a serious amount of cash.

The MegaBots teams announced that they need $500,000 to make changes to the Mk.II like adding heavy duty armor plating and some serious firepower, upgrading the hydraulics to handle the heavier armor and firepower, increasing the Mk.II's top speed and upgrading the power unit to keep up with the new hydraulic system and speed.

To make these changes, the MegaBots team, including co-founder Grant Imahara formerly of MythBusters, is requesting for donor to make a contribution toward their $500,000 goal. As of today they have raised $286,870 from almost 4,000 backers and there is still about a month to go.

Donors are awarded different prizes for putting money towards the battle of the century. If you donate $5 you get a website shout-out from the MegaBots team, $10 will get you a cool laptop sticker. For each increment of money you donate, you can receive things like MegaBots shirts, a 3-D printed Mk.II model and posters.

If this sounds like something that is right up your alley (I mean, it's robot fighting to the death, who wouldn't be interested?), then click here to donate whatever you can for the USA versus Japan giant robot duel.
