An online service providing website hosting, design, marketing, e-commerce and more has been hacked. Now it looks like customer data including 93,000 credit card numbers were accessed.
If you've purchased any services from Web.com, check your next credit or debit card statement carefully. The company, which claims 3.3 million customers, just announced that 93,000 of them had their credit card information compromised last week in a data breach. Web.com says it's fixed the issue, and affected customers were notified via email and will soon receive a letter in the mail.
Web.com is offering all of those affected a year of free credit marketing, and has set up a special customer service hotline at 877-218-2561. The company says it's "working with a nationally recognized IT security firm to conduct a thorough investigation," as well as notifying the authorities.
Web.com also owns Network Solutions and Register.com, but says neither of those companies were affected, unless the customers also made purchases at Web.com.
