Tell me if this situation sounds familiar: you're up early on the way to work and all you can think about is that first cup of coffee. You roll up to your favorite coffee shop and the line is out the door. If there's a drive-through, the car queue is a dozen deep. Now you don't have time to go somewhere else and you don't have time to wait!
The gym is another place that is just miserable when it's busy. You're there to work out, not wait! In fact, when a store, restaurant or other business is jam-packed, it's great for the owner but frustrating for the customer. But you don't need me to tell you that. You need a way to know when it's busy before you drive out to the place.
Google has your back, or rather, it's working on having your back more reliably. At the time I'm writing this, the feature hasn't started working here in Phoenix, but according to Google, it's currently being rolled out all over the world. It'll get to you and me soon, hopefully!
Basically, how it works is that when you search a restaurant or business in Google, it will show you a bar graph with the most popular times for that place for each day of the week. Check out this GIF for a coffee shop in Brooklyn:
