Can you imagine walking into a hotel and completing your check-in process with a robot? In this Japanese hotel, aptly named the Weird Hotel, that's exactly what happens.
Not only do doll-like robots greet you as you enter, but they also provide room and other guest services. The robots check you in and out and give you details about the upcoming day.
The operator of the Weird Hotel, Hideo Sawada, says that the use of robots instead of employees cuts down on crippling labor costs. Robots can't do everything that humans can, though.
Because of this, Sawada has implemented several state-of-the-art functions in the hotel. One of which is the facial recognition scanner that collects profiles of the guests' faces so they don't have to program individual room keys.
