I know my phone has overheated out here in the Phoenix desert plenty of times. With daily temperatures averaging around 106 these last few days, I know quite a few people who have run into this problem pretty recently - especially when it comes to charging phones in the car.
So let me ask you this: Have you ever seen this warning?
Not only is it inconvenient to have an overheated phone, it can also cause damage to the phone's battery. Most times, there's not much you can do to prevent this, but thanks to one American car company, there's now a way.
Not only did Chevrolet win my heart with its heartwarming emoji promo starring Norm Macdonald, the company has announced that it's created an air conditioner specifically for your overheating phone. It will be available as early as 2016 and will be included in various models including Malibu, Volt, Cruze, Impala and a few others.
It's being called "Active Phone Cooling" and the system is also capable of wirelessly charging your phone.
How does it work? According to Chevrolet's press release:
An air vent connected directly to the car’s air conditioning and ventilation system is directed to the charging bin where the phone rests for wireless charging, sending cool air to help lower the phone’s temperature. Active Phone Cooling operates only when the HVAC system is turned on by the driver.
