It's the hottest trend in Silicon Valley and it's spread all over the country. Have you been in an office with pingpong tables, arcade games, pinball and other time-wasting activities? How can a company be profitable when its employees are all just playing around?
It seems counterintuitive, but companies with fun, creative offices often outperform companies with the traditional cubicle-packed offices. This has to do with the way employees think. Experts are saying that these happy work environments can foster positive attitudes and improve the overall quality of the work they do.
A psychology team led by Florian Kunze of the University of Konstanz in Germany is studying the "subjective" age of employees in over 100 German companies. Their study found, "... that companies in which employees, on average, perceive themselves to be younger than they actually are have a higher average individual goal accomplishment and, in turn, experience higher company performance."
