Now's a great time to get a new Kindle

When it comes to gadgets, big upgrades usually come with big price tags. That's not the case with the new Kindle Paperwhite. Amazon added some great new features to its eReader without jacking up the price.

On the surface, the new Paperwhite doesn't look much different. But, once you turn it on, the upgrades come to life. The biggest change has to do with the screen. Amazon outfitted this new eReader with a 300 dpi screen, compared to 220 dpi screen on older models.

Amazon also added a new font called Bookerly to further improve readability.

Amazon also added advanced hyphenation, a feature that should improve layouts and make reading certain eBooks less awkward on the Kindle Paperwhite.

You won't realize how awkward Kindle line spacing was until you've seen your first properly hyphenated Kindle page, and then you'll never want to go back. The new layout engine is also much better at handling drop caps and embedded charts in Kindle books.

How much is all that going to cost you? You can purchase the new Kindle Paperwhite for the same, affordable price of $119. You can order the upgraded eReader on Amazon now, but it won't ship until June 30.
