Watch out for this weird Windows message

Watch out for this weird Windows message

If you use Windows 7 or 8.1, you might have noticed a new icon in your taskbar or gotten a popup message about Windows 10 like this one:

Windows 10 update

The icon looks like the new Windows logo and the pop-up says "Windows 10 is coming. Get it for free!"

A lot of my listeners have been asking if the message is real or a scam. The good news is that it's real, as long as you're seeing it on the desktop and not as an ad in your Web browser or in an email. Those are probably going to be scams.

Microsoft really is letting Windows 7 and 8.1 users upgrade to Windows 10 for free (Windows 8 users will need to upgrade to 8.1 to get the free update). While Windows 10 isn't out until July 29, Microsoft is letting you "reserve" your copy now. That's what this message is about.
