It's hard to believe that Solitaire has been a fixture of Windows computers since 1990. Microsoft claims that Solitaire remains the most played computer game of all time.

How much time have you enjoyed or wasted on Solitaire over the last quarter century? What about Solitaire spinoffs like FreeCell, Spider, Klondike, TriPeaks or Pyramid? I bet you're pretty good at a handful of them by now.

But all that time you thought was lost playing these fun card games might not have been time wasted after all.

To celebrate the game's 25th anniversary, Microsoft is throwing a worldwide Solitaire tournament! Better yet, they are challenging the public to take on Microsoft's card game masters.

The internal challenge began on May 18th and the winners of the internal competition will lead the way when the tournament opens to the public on June 5.  As the Microsoft press release put is:

... you’ll be challenged to bring your best to defeat our best. Are you up to the challenge? Get your Solitaire game on today.

There's no word yet what the winner or winners will receive as a prize.
