Looking for a job? Is the job market dead in your area? Then maybe it's time to focus your sights elsewhere, and I know just the places you should look. Job posting site Glassdoor just released its list of the top 15 cities for jobs right now. The list has taken a lot of job searchers by surprise. That's because the best places to find a job right are not the usual cities most would think of first.
When I think of the hustle and bustle of business, huge cities like Chicago and New York City come to mind. But, those aren't the places that top Glassdoor's new hot job-market list. Instead lots of small and mid-size locations made the list.
“Many small and mid-size cities offer good economic value today,” said Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor chief economist, “but I don’t think public perceptions have kept up with that. There are still stereotypes about old industrial cities.”
To be on the top of this list, the areas needed a generous median salary coupled with affordable housing. For instance, San Francisco ranks high in salary at a median of $70,000, but typical housing at a whopping $700,000 knocked it out of the top 10.
