Back in 1990, a tournament was held. It was the first, last and only of its kind, but its legend is still strong around the world. Now it's coming back for the first time in 25 years and I'm really excited!
I'm talking about the Nintendo World Championships of course! Beginning on May 30th, Nintendo will be hosting qualifying rounds at 29 selected Best Buy locations all across the country. Those winners will then be invited to compete at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. starting on June 14th for the championships, being called "The Final Showdown."
There's no word yet on what games competitors will be playing, but if it's anything like the 1990 tournament games will include Super Mario Brothers, Red Racer and Tetris. I'm going to guess that this year's event includes challenges from Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Brothers.
Rumor also has it that the event will also be streamed online for those who can't make it to the E3 conference where the Final Showdown will be held.
