There's a funny quip often attributed to Mark Twain that "golf is a good walk spoiled." Whether or not he actually said it, the quote clearly came before we had golf carts, or it might have been, "golf is a good drive spoiled."
Still, golf carts are fun to drive, but they're not enough for some people. I've showed you before Bubba Watson's "hovercart" idea, but now there's a new contender for the coolest cart on the links.
It's called the GolfBoard, and it's a mix between a golf cart and a surf board. Seriously. It's meant for one person, it can reach 12 mph and it's battery is good for 36 holes (unless you decide to ride it more than you golf).
You might think that this is only going to appeal to "younger" golfers, but the designer, Don Widman, is actually 81 years old and he loves it. He built it based on an idea from surfer Laird Hamilton.
There's a mount on the front for your golf clubs, and that provides a nice little place to hang on. You can also take off the mounting pole and use it like a surfboard or skateboard with the wireless handheld controller.
Unfortunately, the price right now is $6,500, which is a pretty expensive golf accessory, especially since only one person can use it at a time. Still, if you have the money, I would totally consider it. You just need to see it in action.
Some side benefits of the GolfBoard include getting more exercise that sitting in a golf cart, and faster games. I can also see someone taking this beyond golf either as a personal vehicle like a scooter, or another game like Golf Board polo.
So, would you use one? Let me know in the comments.
