The Apple Watch is ridiculously expensive for what you get. Remember when I told you it only costs the company $84 to build the $399 Apple Watch Sport? The margins on the gold Apple Watch Edition are even more astronomical.
If you want a gold Apple Watch, that will set you back anywhere from $10,000 to $17,000 depending on the specific model you pick out. That's a little bit much for my taste.
But now, the free market is at work again to save you money. There are several jewelers across the country that are offering to gold-plate your Apple Watch for a significantly lower cost.
A company called Watch Plate will let you mail in your watch and will turn it to gold for just $399. The company also says it will ship the device back to you within three business days. It will use 24 karat rose gold or 24 karat yellow gold. So far, this is the cheapest option out there.
Another company called Golden Dreams is a little bit more pricey, but still way less expensive than Apple's option. It offers the Apple Watch itself for $4,200, with 24 karat yellow gold, 18 karat rose gold and 19 karat white gold models. Golden Dreams also offers around 160 alligator leather straps. These models are made in Geneva and will ship to anywhere in the world, in a "high end luxury box."
