Some Internet customers of mega-ISP Time Warner Cable are in for a major speed upgrade for free. This new service is up to six times faster than Time Warner's current top-tier speed. What can you do with this new blazing fast speed? How about download an entire movie in less than 40 seconds?
Time Warner customers who live in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area are the latest to benefit from the increased competition brought on by Google Fiber. To fight off Google, Time Warner is upgrading customers in the area to its TWC Maxx program for free. The network upgrade promises to increase Internet speeds for customers.
According to TWC, internet customers at all subscription levels will see speed increases, ranging up to 300 Mbps for the top tier, appear for free beginning “this summer.”
Google Fiber offers speeds up to 1 Gbps, which is more than twice as fast as Time Warner's top TWC Maxx package. But, Time Warner is hoping the free upgrade buys it enough goodwill to keep some customers from switching over for now.
