With so many similar products listed on Amazon, how do you decide which ones to purchase? If you're like most shoppers, you turn to the reviews section. It's the best place to find out what other shoppers thought of the product you're considering. That's why Amazon recently filed suit to shut down four websites that offer to pay people to post product reviews.
"While small in number, these reviews threaten to undermine the trust that customers, and the vast majority of sellers and manufacturers, place in Amazon, thereby tarnishing Amazon's brand," said the retailer in documents filed to the court in Washington.
Amazon alleges that the sites are paying people to leave positive reviews for certain products that can result in higher star ratings and better sales. The sites Amazon is suing are buyazonreviews.com, buyamazonreviews.com, bayreviews.net and buyreviewsnow.com. Two of the sites have already gone offline.
