The State Department has been plagued by attacks from hackers believed to be associated with Russia. Now, CNN is reporting that those same hackers used that access to break into White House networks that contained unclassified information, but did contain some sensitive information about the president.
The hackers had access to sensitive information such as real-time non-public details of the president's schedule. While such information is not classified, it is still highly sensitive and prized by foreign intelligence agencies, U.S. officials say.
The White House uses a separate system to store classified information such as material related to national security. That network hasn't been compromised, according to Ben Rhoades, President Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser.
