Happy Birthday, iPad! On this day five years ago, Steve Jobs unveiled the first-ever iPad. Like some Apple gadgets before it, it was met with skepticism at first, but it definitely changed the game. But in the fast-paced world of cutting edge technology, 5 years is an eternity. With iPad sales now flagging and more competition than ever, are the iPad's days numbered?
When the iPad was first revealed in April 2010, many tech experts thought that Apple was shooting itself in the foot. There wasn't really a market for tablets yet, and smartphones were still finding their footing in the emerging tech market. Why would people want or need a tablet when they were still getting used to a small screen in their pocket?
Now of course, most homes have at least one tablet that takes the place of a laptop or even desktop computer. They're mobile and powerful, and they really changed the course of tech history, and possibly even saved another industry.
