You probably know some really smart people, but I bet you also know some folks who only think they're smart. It turns out the Internet has a lot to do with that second group of people.
A new study shows Internet use can give you an inflated opinion of your own intelligence. Since we basically carry the Internet around with us in our pockets, it's easy to whip out our smartphone and look up a definition or what character that one guy played in that one movie.
But take away your smartphone or Internet connection and you don't have those resources anymore, right? Interestingly enough, it doesn't affect how some people think they can answer a question. Folks who felt confident answering questions with the help of the Internet seemed just as confident when left to their own knowledge.
How can that be? Just wait until you see these clever experiments researchers devised to test this idea.
