Security researchers at Doctor Web have discovered a new virus that could carry out "a wide range of destructive actions" on any machine that it manages to infect. Dubbed BackDoor.Yebot, this malware can turn your computer into a zombie server for hackers.
BackDoor.Yebot also lets hackers use your computer to hack and infect other computers. It also records your keystrokes and sends the info right back to hackers.
Luckily, the only way that hackers can get BackDoor.Yebot onto your computer, Doctor Web reports, is if you've already let a virus infect your PC. BetaNews explains:
It's spread via another piece of malware, Trojan.Siggen6.31836. When launched on the target machine, this injects its code into the svchost.exe, csrss.exe, lsass.exe and explorer.exe processes. After sending a request to the remote server it then downloads and decrypts BackDoor.Yebot and transfers control to it.
To make sure that viruses like Trojan.Siggen6.31836 aren't infecting your computer with scary stuff like BackDoor.Yebot, you'll want to install an anti-virus program. If you already have an anti-virus installed, then you'll also want to make sure that it's up to date.
