Back in 2013, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said he wanted to use drones to deliver small packages. That dream is one step closer to reality now that the FAA has given Amazon an experimental airworthiness certificate that will let the company begin testing drone delivery.
The FAA's decision comes in response to threats directly from Amazon. The company told the FAA late last year that it would take its drone program to other countries if test flights weren't approved soon. It looks like Amazon's tough stance worked.
But, don't expect a drone to deliver Amazon orders to your doorstep quite yet. The FAA has instituted some restrictive rules that Amazon has to follow during its test flights that will likely stop the company from expanding the program nationwide in the near future.
