If you caught my coverage of Apple's massive press event yesterday, then you might remember that I mentioned that Apple wants you to think about the upcoming Apple Watch. The company wants you to think about it so much, in fact, that it's installing an advertisement for it on your iPhone or iPad that you can't remove.
Apple's making a massive bet on Apple Watch. Rumors surrounding the device's battery life have made consumers eager to check out Apple's take on wearable gadgets wary. The ad that Apple packed into its latest iOS update is the company's last-ditch effort to make sure that its bet on the Apple Watch doesn't end up in a loss.
The release date for every upcoming Apple product that isn't the Apple Watch falls on April 10th, the day that you can start pre-ordering the Apple Watch.
The company doesn't just want to get you in its stores, though, it wants to get the Apple Watch on your phone even if you don't own one.
If you download the new Apple update, then you should see an app on your phone called Apple Watch. The app gives you a breakdown of what types of Apple Watches will soon be on the market and previews some of the device's features.
No matter how you look at it, this app is an advertisement. Apple is free to run all the ads that it wants on other people's websites, but I'm not sure how I feel about the company "updating" a gadget that I paid for with an app built only to sell me on the Apple Watch.
While I'm sure that Apple will probably relent on the Apple Watch app sometime in April — after the device is released — I want to know if the Apple Watch is going to be the revolution that Apple wants it to be.
