A historic flight just took off today, but this flight won't be finished for about five months or so. These two men are flying around the world. The first aerial circumnavigation took place in 1924, but 91 years later there are still some milestones to conquer.
Even though flying around the world has been accomplished several times by planes and hot air balloons, this journey isn't about speed or the destination, it's about the journey. This is the first time that the earth will be circumnavigated using nothing but the power of light.
Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard are Swiss explorers that have created an experimental aircraft called the Solar Impulse 2. As the name suggests, it runs solely off of solar power, and it's out to break records.
