Biggest child porn bust ever

Biggest child porn bust ever

Canadian police just dug up a massive underground child porn sharing network. The network, investigators allege, is comprised of 7,500 users spread across 100 countries worldwide.

Scott Tod, Deputy Commissioner of the Ontario Provincial Police, compared it to an online gambling operation:

What we are alleging is occurring is that there are individuals and organizations that are profiting from the storage and the exchange of child sexual exploitation material. They store it and they provide a secure website that you can log into, much like people do with illegal online gaming sites.

This network wasn't just some slipshod hole-in-the-wall, either. Whole servers were dedicated to maintaining this horrifying material.

What's even scarier is the amount of data that this secret sharing network had: 1.2 petabytes of data. For reference, 1.2 petabytes is four times bigger than the data that makes up all of the Library of Congress.

This takedown is a win for the good guys, but creepy at the same time. Hopefully, as online creeps try to hide their online presence with things like the Tor browser, police will continue to bust them.
