Samsung and its Galaxy line of Android gadgets is Apple's only real rival for smartphones and tablets at the moment. Unfortunately, with its last model, the Galaxy S5, Samsung didn't quite hit the home run it hoped.
It didn't help that Apple launched the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with larger screens, which was always Samsung's big advantage. For the Galaxy S6, Samsung needs to do something spectacular, and it actually came up with something interesting.
What Samsung came up with is the Samsung S6 Edge, which curves the screen around one long edge of the phone. Click here for the crazy photos.
The idea is that you can keep icons for your favorite apps there so you can launch them without needing to leave the current app. You can also get notifications, check the time, control music and whatever else app developers can figure out to do with the extra space, all without leaving whatever app you're using.
It's an interesting idea and if nothing else gets Samsung some points for originality. However, some information has come out that might sink the Edge before it even arrives.
