Following last night's Academy Awards, there's a lot of focus on "Birdman" and the wonderful actors, actresses, directors and behind the scenes folks that create our favorite films. But, there not the only ones responsible for bringing all of that entertaining magic to the big screen. Not by a long shot. That's why my favorite Oscar winner is Larry Hornbeck, the man who literally changed the way we watch movies.
Hornbeck might not be a household name, but I guarantee you've seen his work. The engineer created the digital micromirror device used in the DLP digital projectors that most major theater chains use today. Hornbeck's has provided many benefits, including improving image quality and making 3-D better than ever.
Due to his great invention, Hornbeck won the Academy of Motion Pictures Award of Merit at the the Academy’s Science and Technical Awards in early February.
