Three months after hackers were discovered in the U.S. State Department's email system, the government is still trying to get rid of them. But, that's proving really difficult because the hackers keep changing up their tactics to avoid getting booted. The hackers only broke into the unclassified section of the email system, but that's still a big problem.
The attacks are worrisome because they could enable the hackers to generate false e-mails, delete some real ones or seek a way into classified communications systems, the officials said.
While this attack is very persistent, fending off hackers is nothing new for the department. The State Department fights off thousands of attacks every day, according to spokesperson Marie Harf.
