Google Glass easily topped my list of biggest tech fails of 2014 and now Google is doing away with the gadget as we know it. But, it won't be gone for good. The company is reportedly going to start from scratch and develop a new version of the smart glasses.
The initial Google Glass concept seemed really cool, but the gadget was simply too expensive and didn't offer enough features to entice buyers. Google released a beta version for developers last year, but it never really took off. By the end of the year, the gadget only had around 100 apps and some developers were doing away with the apps they already created.
In a statement in January, [new Google Glass boss Tony] Fadell said: 'Early Glass efforts have broken ground and allowed us to learn what's important to consumers and enterprises alike.
Google brought in Fadell to provide a sorely-needed new direction for the program. He is a co-founder of smart thermostat and smoke alarm company Nest, so he's got a good track record with smart gadgets.
