Amazon.com started as an online bookstore in 1994. Before the '90s were over, it became the largest Internet retailer out there, selling books, streaming movies and music, and just about any product you can think of.
But while Amazon revolutionized online shopping, it drove a lot of brick-and-mortar stores out of business in the process. The lure of online shopping is just too exciting. But it's just not an Internet marketplace anymore.
Now, Amazon is opening its own brick-and-mortar store. The location is a head-scratcher, too. It's not as exotic as Sony's pop-up shop, but it's still exciting.
