Odds are you can't log onto any of your social network accounts without seeing a flood of "selfies," those goofy photos people love to take of themselves on vacation, at a restaurant or just standing in the bathroom. So, who takes the most selfies? Researchers decided to take a look at that question to come up with a definitive answer.
The researches tracked down every photo posted to the social network Instagram between November and January with the hashtag #selfie. People on social media use hashtags, also known as the number symbol, to categorize their posts and make them easy to search for later.
Using geolocation information from photos posted to Instagram with the #selfie tag, researchers plotted each selfie on respective maps of the US, UK and London.
Once they knew where the photos were taken, the researchers compared the amount of selfies in each state to that state's population to see which states had the most selfies per 100,000 residents.
