Facebook Lite is a Facebook app that uses less data

If your smartphone doesn't have much space, then apps like Facebook can be a huge drain on your device's storage. The app can suck down your data, too.

If your cellphone doesn't have a fast connection or that much space, then you'll be excited to know about Facebook's Lite app. The app targets emerging markets that only have access to 2G data.

That doesn't mean that you can't benefit. Facebook can be a massive drain on anyone's data and an app like this could alleviate some of the pressure.

Bonus tip: Want to learn how to lock down your data plan? This tip will help.

The app is currently available for download in the Google Play Store. The iOS version hasn't been released, but you can probably expect it soon.

ABC News explains the story behind the app:

Connecting the world has been a major goal for CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his team behind the Internet.org initiative. The group has been rolling out free, limited mobile Internet access to people in developing countries, which includes the Facebook app.

Between Facebook Lite and Facebook at Work, there's almost no reason not have Facebook on all of your devices. Convenient. Spookily convenient.
