Now you can flag Facebook hoaxes to get them removed

Are you tired of bogus news stories flooding your Facebook News Feed? You're not alone, and Facebook is finally doing something about it. The social network is now letting you flag fake stories, so they'll stop showing up.

Now, when a story that's obviously fake shows on your News Feed, you can hide it and report it. If enough people report a story as a hoax, it will start to show up less and may even contain a label warning other users that it could be a hoax.

Facebook has tested user responses and doesn't think that this will affect satirical sites that knowingly post misleading stories like The Onion.

Reporting a fake news story is simple. When you choose to hide a post from your timeline, you'll also be given the option to report it.

Here is a sample screenshot showing what the new Facebook reporting form looks like.

Hopefully the new function will stop all of those crazy stories about celebrity deaths and Facebook charging fees. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
