Christmas came early for crooks this year. Very early, considering the fact that we're only a few weeks into 2015.
I'm sure you've heard of the massive data breach wave that struck stores across the United States earlier this year. You might have even had your identity stolen and nothing came of it. So far, at least.
Don't believe me? Listen to what Mike O'Shaughnessy, a security expert with Guardian Pro, told Arizona reporters:
"They can go and they can steal identities, steal your credit card and steal your debit card, but they're not going to really use them. You're not going to feel the pain until after the holidays."
That's what's so scary about hackers. Even if they have your information, then you might not even know it until they decide to start draining your accounts.
To defend against patient identity thieves, Guardian Pro's security expert told AZCentral's audience to do the following:
- Look closely at your credit card statements
- Check all bank accounts
- Change your passwords
- Pull your credit report
