The NFL Conference Finals are today, but you might be able to figure out the winner without even watching the games. Cortana, the Windows Phone virtual assistant, is predicting the results of both matchups, and the program has a very good track record.

Cortana has correctly predicted the results of NFL games 66.6% of time this year overall and has 6-2 record during playoff games. It was even more impressive during the World Cup when it correctly predicted 15 of 16 knockout game results.

How does the program keep picking correctly? Cortana uses the Bing Predicts algorithm to choose which team is most likely to win.

So far, Cortana has made the same picks as the oddsmakers in Vegas throughout the entire playoffs. That isn't going to change this week, either. The program is picking the Patriots and Seahawks to win and move on to the Super Bowl.

Indianapolis Colts vs. New England Patriots — Patriots win, 56.5% chance (Patriots -7)
Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks — Seahawks win, 58.9% chance (Seahawks -7)

That's good news for fans in New England and Seattle. But, if those aren't your teams, don't worry. Cortana isn't perfect. Indianapolis fans were pleasantly surprised when their team beat the Denver Broncos last week even though Cortana was against them.
