Traveling from Los Angeles to San Francisco in 30 minutes might sound like a pipe dream, but billionaire inventor Elon Musk (of Tesla and SpaceX fame) thinks it's possible. And he actually wants to use a pipe to do it.
His scheme is call the Hyperloop, and it's essentially a long tube containing a partial vacuum. People ride in pods that can travel more than 700 mph thanks to the lower air resistance. There's just one catch.
Actually building the real thing would take an estimated $6 billion, and no one is even sure if it would work. When he first proposed it, Musk said he was just releasing the idea and letting other people actually build it.
Now, however, it looks like he's going to get things rolling.
