Even though they've both denied it, I think we all know what's going on. Samsung seems to be making a bid to take over the floundering BlackBerry company.
The price tag for this little adventure goes to the tune of about $7.5 billion, and the news that BlackBerry may be selling out is boosting stock around 30%. But that's not even the biggest news.
The biggest news, other than both companies deny that anything is going on, is that Samsung isn't offering to bail BlackBerry out for any altruistic reasons. Samsung is most likely making a grab at BlackBerry's patents, which would be part of the entire company if there was to be any kind of acquisition.
What would Samsung want with BlackBerry's patents? It seems that Samsung is looking for some kind of spark to keep it from suffering the same fate as BlackBerry itself, and being buried by the competition.
What does this mean for you? Unfortunately, if you rely on a BlackBerry phone or gadget, it may be time to switch to another brand. The BlackBerry company has been going downhill for several years now, and may be irreversibly sinking, but it may be resurrected in a new form if Samsung does buy out the company. We'll just have to wait and see.
