The problem with smartwatches as of this moment is that they don't function as the world's best watches. They have to be charged daily and that's one feature that you'd never see on your run-of-the-mill watch.
If Swiss watchmaker Montblanc's latest design has anything to say about smartwatches, though, it's that you can have the best of both worlds.
Instead of making the watch's face "smart," Montblanc has opted to smarten up the watch's strap. That means that when you received a text message or alert from your phone that other smartwatches would notice, you simply have to turn your wrist the other way.
You'll still be able to enjoy all of the features that a smartwatch provides, only with a little more craftsmanship.

It's no self-driving car, but this watch looks like mechanical watch manufacturers are figuring out how to bring their classic tech into the digital age.
