Apple just filed a patent that could be the harbinger for its next generation product. Sure, the Apple Watch hasn't hit the market yet, but that doesn't mean that the company isn't already looking toward the future.
Its newest patent looks to be a stylus of some kind. Given Apple's innovative track record, I expect this pen to be more than your run-of-the-mill stylus.
According to the patent, the stylus would be packed with accelerometer sensors and transmitters that would enable it to connect to other devices.
How would this product be used? Well, that remains to be seen. But what you can see right now is the picture that came along with Apple's patent filing.
I think the idea behind this pen is to give users the ability to write notes to themselves wherever they want. The actual data that you write would be sent to the computer. The patent seems to say so, at least:
The computing device may be located anywhere, as long as it is able to communicate with the stylus, and be able to display the written text or images.
Here's what the device might end up looking like.
The iPhone, Apple Watch and this future-tech pen could form a powerful trifecta. Look out for the Apple Watch coming later this week and be sure to check out the high-end version right here.
