You know you should always be careful when buying or selling things on Craigslist. Be sure to meet during the day in a neutral area away from your home, and it's a good idea to take someone with you.
You should also inspect the goods before you take them home with you. But one couple didn't know that they should have inspected their goods before selling it to a stranger.
When Hayley Crews' boyfriend listed her box spring on Craigslist before the holidays and moving in together, they had no idea they'd be in for an emotional rollercoaster. With the box spring gone, the couple readied themselves for Christmas and the trip they were taking to Arizona for the holiday.
Strangely, Crews' cat, Camo, could not be found. Crews' boyfriend, Roy Dufek, realized that Camo's disappearance coincided with the day he sold the box spring.
What Dufek didn't know was that Crews' beloved cat, Camo, was hiding in the box spring. He canvassed the neighborhood looking for the cat, and neighbors pitched in to help him find poor Camo, and even searched the house of the person who bought the box spring, but to no avail.
The couple went ahead with their vacation plans as neighbors and friends assured them they would keep an eye out for the lost cat. When they returned from their trip, there was good news awaiting them.
Camo had been spotted near an airport about six miles away from Crews' home. The couple rushed down and set up a kitty trap that included sardines and clothes from Crews and Dufek
It only took about an hour and a half before Camo, quite a bit worse for the wear, was caught in the trap. He was taken to the vet with broken claws, a squinty eye, a cut lip, and a few lost pounds.
"[Camo] spent the night getting up several times eating and drinking and was taken to the vet this morning," Dufek wrote. "The vet gave him an antibiotic shot, a good inspection, and he was off back to home where we think we pulled a tick off and are treating him for fleas.
"Hayley gave him a bath and he's been cleaning himself vigorously since." The couple go on to thank everyone who volunteered their time to aid in the search for Camo, especially during the holidays. "It was quite emotional last night, we're in shock of this whole experience, and have been holding him tight!" Dufek wrote.
So, the next time you buy or sell something on Craigslist, be very careful to inspect it for hidden kitties before you leave!
