It's not just life and limb that the brave men and women of our armed services sacrifice to keep our nation safe. While they're overseas, our soldiers miss out on the priceless moments with friends and family that we cherish.
People can sometimes take for granted that they'll be there for a brother's wedding, or the birth of their child, or a parent's anniversary. Soldiers serving abroad don't always have that luxury.
When Sergeant Aaron Mast deployed for a nine-month tour in Afghanistan, he expected to miss several important milestones his friends and family would be celebrating. Since it was his third tour, he knew what to expect.
But that doesn't mean he wasn't sad to miss one of his best friends' weddings, his mom's birthday and more. So Aaron came up with a plan.
Aaron printed out a life-size cardboard cutout of himself, and enlisted his friends to carry it around to every party, event and family function.
This is the result:
I love it! We should do this for all our troops serving overseas.
